The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has conveyed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State for their prompt and decisive intervention following the tragic killing of 16 Kano natives in Uromi, Edo State.


In an official statement released by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government acknowledged and expressed appreciation for the swift visits by delegations from both the Federal Government and the Edo State Government. These actions were lauded as expressions of solidarity and genuine concern for the bereaved families from Toranke, the ancestral home of the majority of the victims.


Governor Yusuf, in his expression of grief over the barbaric act, reaffirmed his call for justice, emphasizing the need for a transparent and fair legal process. He underscored the significance of publicly parading the suspects, ensuring that justice not only prevails but is also visible to all Nigerians, thereby restoring public trust in the judicial system.


"We are grateful for the steps already taken, yet justice must not only be served; it must be transparently visible," Governor Yusuf asserted. "The people of Kano, along with all Nigerians, deserve to witness the public accountability of those responsible for this gruesome massacre."


Additionally, the governor commended Governor Okpebholo for his proactive engagement with the Hausa community in Edo State, a gesture aimed at preventing further escalation of hostilities. He also praised Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to compensating the bereaved families and urged that the process be executed without unnecessary delay to provide timely support for those who have tragically lost their breadwinners.


Governor Yusuf also extended his gratitude to President Tinubu for directing security agencies to act swiftly in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators of the killings. He noted that this Federal Government intervention is a clear demonstration of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the security and well-being of all Nigerians.


Meanwhile, the people of Toranke have expressed their sincere appreciation for the collective efforts of both the Edo State and Federal Governments in addressing the situation.


Both the Kano and Edo State Governors have vowed to ensure a thorough, impartial, and transparent justice process, reiterating their resolve to prevent such tragic incidents from recurring.


The Kano State Government has also reaffirmed its unyielding demand for justice and pledged to maintain a vigilant oversight of the ongoing proceedings to guarantee that the families of the victims receive appropriate compensation and sustained support.
